The Rolling Stones are paying homage to the late zydeco master, Clifton Chenier, by covering his classic, “Zydeco Sont Pas Salés,” for an upcoming tribute album. A Tribute to the King of Zydeco is a Chenier covers album featuring contributions from Lucinda Williams, Taj Mahal, Steve Earle, Jimmie Vaughan, Marcia Ball, Charley Crockett, Molly Tuttle, as well as the Stones, all saluting the music legend with spirited renditions of his songs. “Zydeco has been a part of what we always listen to, the Mississippi blues, and it’s not a long way from there to Louisiana,” Keith Richards says. “We were always listening to stuff from down there. You listen to American music wherever it came from, even if it was in French.” The Stones’ rollicking take on “Zydeco Sont Pas Salés” marks the first new recording released by the band since their 2023 Grammy-winning album, Hackney Diamonds.
